Facial Expressionism

After reading an article on the commercial use of facial recognition and emotion detection, I felt an urge to appropriate the technology for alternate disruptive means. What if the same technology could be used to create joy and play? To rethink how our faces function as basic (tools) for self-expression? The application I built activates your face as a hands-free drawing tool controlled by your facial expressions. Experimenting with new configurations in your facial features, beyond the familiar emotional modes, leads to changes in brush color and brush stroke. The lens of the project points not at the final artwork, but the artwork made when the artist’s face is at play.
